The event is organised by the Burren Cycling Club and is considered one of Ireland’s top sportive cycles. It attracts over 2,000 cyclists each year, ranging from beginners to experienced riders. It is not a race, but a recreational challenge focused on enjoyment, scenery, and community spirit.

The cycle starts and finishes in the village of Barefield. Riders travel through the Burren, a distinctive limestone (karst) landscape known for its rugged terrain, quiet roads, and scenic coastal views.

Participants can choose from four routes depending on fitness level:

Approx 160 km – the most challenging, covering inland and coastal sections
Approx 120 km – includes notable climbs and scenic highlights
Approx 80 km – a moderate route
22 km (Dromore Family Spin) – a shorter, beginner-friendly option

These routes typically pass through villages, coastal roads, and areas such as Ballyvaughan and Burren National Park, combining flat stretches with climbs and technical sections.
