Sitting in the foothills of Slieve Callan and located between the towns of Ennis, Ennistymon and Miltown Malbay is the small scenic village of Inagh.
There is plenty of walking trails in the area including the short hike to the top of Slieve Callan, West Clare’s highest mountain. On a clear day, you can enjoy panoramic views of Mount Brandon to the south, the Silvermine Mountains in Tipperary to the east, the Burren and the hills of Connemara to the north, and Clare’s Atlantic coastline to the west. Inagh is located on the Mid Clare Way, which takes walkers on a circular route through rolling countryside and the neighbouring villages of Kilnamona and Connolly. The extended Mid Clare Way takes six-days to complete. The 148km loop boasts remote hills, river valleys and lake shore scenery in abundance and connects with the East Clare Way.
Culinary enthusiasts can enjoy a tour of the working farm behind the internationally recognised St Tola Goat Cheese, situated a short drive west of Inagh. There is a chance to pet the goats, see them during feeding time and get a better understanding of sustainable farming. A cheese-making demonstration and tasting is included.
The nearby 18-hole Kilnamona Pitch and Putt Club features one of the finest and best kept courses in Clare. Situated on a family farm, the course offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Inagh also is synonymous with hurling having produced many players that have represented Clare in the sport. The local GAA Club, home of the Inagh-Kilnamona amalgamation, is a hive of activity and always affords a warm welcome to visitors looking to enjoy the spectacle of Ireland’s most ancient game being played.
