Natural Attractions
Cool For Kids
Free To Visit

Visitors can explore the Burren National Park’s fascinating flora and geology, discover various walking trails, or learn about the land management practices used to protect nature within the park. An Information Point located in Corofin, a village 8 km from the park, remains open year-round. This facility provides a free shuttle bus service to the park, which operates from May to September.

The Burren National Park, managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, was established in 1991 as Ireland’s fifth National Park. Situated on the south-eastern edge of the Burren where the limestone hills fall away to lowlands covered in glacial drift soils, the park has a present area of approx. 2,000 hectares. Within the National Park, all of the main habitats typical of the Burren landscape are to be found. These include limestone pavement, hazel scrub, deciduous woodland, lakes, turloughs, springs, fens and calcareous grassland.

A team of rangers and general operatives is responsible for conservation, monitoring and maintenance in the park while guide staff are based in the Information Point in Corofin, 8 km from the park, where visitors can get information on their visit. The Information Point houses a small but informative exhibition on the geology, nature and management of the park as well as providing toilet facilities. Free shuttle bus services run from here to the Burren National Park trailhead and Slieve Carran Nature Reserve, 7 days a week, from the beginning of May to the end of September. The Burren.ie website provides specific bus timetables for planning a visit. Bus passengers can park for free in Corofin for the duration of the trip. Knowledgeable guides can be booked for free guided walks in the park where visitors can discover the habitats, flora, fauna and geology of the area. Social media channels provide updates on special events and scheduled guided walks.
