Burren Smokehouse & Taste the Atlantic – Salmon Experience (& Master Classes)

Lisdoonvarna, North Clare

Food/Drink Experiences
Cool For Kids

Immerse yourself in the Salmon Experience and follow in the footsteps of royalty!

During your visit to Clare, call into the Burren Smokehouse Visitor Centre located in Lisdoonvarna just off the Wild Atlantic Way and a short drive from the Cliffs of Moher.

There are two different experiences

In the new “Taste the Atlantic – The Salmon Experience”, you can follow the iconic salmon through history. Watch the story of the Salmon of Knowledge unfold before your eyes, and unlock knowledge through the different interactive displays. Reel in the years and follow authentic news stories on salmon through the decades. Solve jigsaw and quiz questions. Suitable for school children and grown-ups alike.

After exploring the story of the Kind of Fish, sample the silky texture of the Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon in their Burren Smokehouse Visitor Centre and Delicatessen. Discover the mystery of salmon smoking and the secret of how smoked salmon is handcrafted by watching a short video in English, French, German, Italian, Swedish or Spanish.

In May 2019, the honour of a Swedish Royal visit was bestowed upon the Curtin family. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden came to the Burren Smokehouse to learn about artisan food production in the Burren and to taste their Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon.

And if you need a rest and a bite to eat after all these experiences, there is the gastro pub a bit further down the road, the Roadside Tavern with the Burren Brewery (making craft beers – counted among the best in Ireland by the Lonely Planet Global Beer Guide!). Right next to the pub is the airy Burren Storehouse with its offering of pizzas and more.

Book master classes and private guided tours:

Master Classes: you earn more about the smoking process and the world of salmon by booking a master class.
