Within a short walk of the castle is Dysert Church and Monastery. This Church site was gifted to St Tóla in the 8th century by the O’Dea’s and in the 12th & 17th centuries the O’Dea’s funded the enlargement and renovation of the monastery which includes a beautiful Hiberno-Romanesque doorway and the erecting of St Tóla’s High Cross.
