The Russell Weekend Festival
Doolin, Co. Clare

Traditional Irish music, song and storytelling festival including local musicicians and storytellers.
The Russell Festival celebrates the music, dance, and storytelling of North Clare, serving as a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of the Russell brothers. Over the years, the festival has grown in scope, incorporating a wider array of events, increased opportunities for participation, and paid performances, while ensuring a balance between showcasing professional performative excellence and fostering the community participatory nature of traditional arts.
As a festival for all, the festival places intergenerational engagement and accessibility at the core of its mission, with events designed to be welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. The 4-day festival, held annually in Doolin, aims to foster a deeper, more meaningful appreciation for the practitioners of the traditional arts and the art forms themselves, encouraging both local and international visitors to participate in sessions, workshops, and concerts.
On Friday night, a Storytelling evening will be held at the Russell Centre, featuring a presentation by the Doolin Folklore Project.
Sessions will take place from morning to evening across all four days of the festival for attendees to enjoy in all establishments. These sessions are designed for musicians to have the social engagement of sessions without the pressure of the speed of the main sessions that take place as part of the festival; they are more supported and focused on people who have had initial training on their instrument and want to improve their level of playing as part of a group in their age group. Workshops will be held in all pubs and hotels as part of the festival.
