McKernan Woollen Mills offer free guided tours of their real working weaving and knitting studio.
Experience the carefully restored 19th-century Hattersley looms and state-of-the-art knitting machines in operation. Discover the fascinating process of textile manufacturing in a historical context.
McKernan’s contemporary designs are sold in high-end boutiques, concept stores and museum shops throughout Ireland, Europe and North America. This tour is ideal for fashion and textile enthusiasts, history buffs, or anyone who has wondered how clothes are made.
Visitors will meet the makers and learn how designs are brought from early concepts to hand-finished pieces. They will experience the passion, skill, and many hands necessary to create the clothing we so often take for granted.
The tour finishes up in the colourful mill shop which stocks the full range of woven and knitted accessories. Customers will also have the unique opportunity to find a bargain on the special offer and sample rails.
The tours are fully guided by a talented staff member and are available in both German and English. Walk-in individual travellers are always welcome but booking is advised for larger groups.
