The Monks Society is a restaurant, bar and late-night venue that will take you from breakfast to dancing the night away.
Once home to the Franciscan Monks, the 13th-century structure now houses a funky main bar and late-night venue. Upstairs, you will find a contemporary European restaurant, continuing the site’s 100+ year history of hospitality in the county capital. The Monks Society offers an à la carte menu, a set menu, and a brunch menu on weekends.
The exposed, hand-built, 13th-century architecture of the main bar allows guests to trace the history of the town with their eyes while sipping on a signature cocktail. As cosy as it all sounds, this bar is not just for sitting in. With live music and DJs late into the night, The Monks Society is the place to be on Friday and Saturday.
Upstairs you will find their restaurant, which is complete with a full bar. The dining rooms, the pink room, and the dark room provide an intimate dining experience and complement the yin-and-yang energy of the restaurant. Their European menu has something for everyone, from the vegan dish of the day, made with all in-season produce, to gluten-free alternatives of their main dishes, fresh fish and modern takes on the classics. Brunch is served on the weekends, but more importantly, so is ‘bottomless brunch’. For just €25, enjoy endless prosecco or mimosas for 90 minutes.
Just off from the restaurant is their Mezzanine which marries both spaces together. The Mezzanine offers a casual dining alternative to the restaurant with the feel of being in the main bar. With its own cocktail and wine bar, this space is ideal for private events and celebrations.
